Walthourville Toddler's Death Ruled a Homicide

The 2-year-old was found in a canal near his home Jan. 14, three hours after being reported missing.

A Walthourville toddler who was found dead in a canal Jan. 14 was murdered, according to the Georgia Bureau of investigation. The Liberty County Sheriff's Office confirmed Thursday that the death of 2-year-old Jonathan Thomas Sturdy was being investigated as a homicide, according to a Coastal Courier report. Jonathan's parents reported him missing around 5 p.m. Jan. 14. His mother, Kayla Sturdy, told police that he had been missing for about 30 minutes before she called 911, according to the Coastal Courier. Jonathan's body was found in the canal after a three-hour search. According to the Courier, emergency medical personnel attempted to revive him at the scene. Walthourville Toddler Drowns

A missing two-year-old was found dead Saturday.

A missing Walthourville toddler was found dead not far from his home Saturday, according to a WSAV report. The child had apparently drowned in a canal. According to Walthourville police, two-year-old Jonathan Thomas Sturdy wandered away from his home late Saturday afternoon. The police department, along with fire and rescue units, the Liberty County Sheriff's Office, the Hinesville Canine Unit and volunteers from the area searched for the child. He was found about 8:30 p.m. submerged in a canal about a quarter-mile from his home, according to WSAV.
