Fort Stewart's Corkan Pool, 439 Lindquist Road, will open for the season Saturday at 11 a.m. The pool will be open Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and closed on Tuesday and Wednesday. Admission is $5 daily and $120 for a season pass. Stewart Lanes Bowling Center, 439 Lindquist Road, will feature "red pin" bowling Saturday from 8 to 11 p.m. Stop in and bowl, and if the head pin is red and you bowl a strike, you win a free game! Today is the last chance for soldiers to sign up for the "Dog Tags & Outlaws" Fishing Tournament Friday and Saturday at the Fort McAllister Marina in Richmond Hill. The event will kick off Friday at 7 p.m. with the Captain's Dinner. Fishing boats leave between 1 and 5 a.m. Saturday, and weigh-in is from 4 to 6 p.m. if you'd like to sign up and meet the Purple Heart/Wounded Warrior prerequisite, contact Sgt. 1st Class Justin Scott at justin.scott@conus.army.mil or 614-312-6227. Provide your name, rank, unit and cell phone number. Participation is on a first-come, first-serve basis. The first 150 qualified volunteers will be accepted, with preference given to Purple Heart recipients and Wounded Warriors.

He didn’t hold back when asked about the weight of each soldier’s combat gear, either — 70 pounds — or how much wearing the gear raises a soldier’s perception of the environmental temperature; he said you add about 15 degrees to the actual temperature and that’s how it feels. Old-fashioned sailing vessels are lining the Savannah riverfront this weekend for the Tall Ships Challenge. Visitors can tour some of the ships and even take sailing excursions. There's also food, entertainment and, of course, pirates. Tickets for the event are $25 for adults and $12 for kids 5-16. Admission is free to children 4 and under. The Tall Ships Challenge kicks off today at the Savannah riverfront and runs through Monday. Stay with Fort Stewart Patch and check out our Twitter feed for more coverage throughout the day. Visitors can purchase tickets to the festival and dockside viewing of the ships, a dockside boarding ticket which will allow them to board up to 12 tall ships or a "sail away" excursion aboard participating ships. The Savannah riverfront will take a step back in time Thursday as the city hosts the Tall Ships Challenge. About 15 tall ships will participate in the event, which runs through May 7 and will include performances, reenactments, pirates and more. Visitors will be able to view the ships and board many of them during the event. The event will wrap up May 7 with the Savannah Tall Ships Challenge Parade of Sail on the Savannah River. This is the Tall Ships Challenge's first year in Savannah, but the event is an annual one, alternating between the Great Lakes and the Atlantic and Pacific coasts, according to a press release. The Culture Shock Performance Festival at Armstrong Atlantic State University is free and open to the public Friday at 7 p.m. Faculty, staff and students of the university will perform and share bits of their culture with the community.
