By Donna Miles American Forces Press Service FORT MEADE, Md. -- Three of the five defendants charged with planning and conducting the 9/11 terrorist attacks took advantage of yesterday’s military court ruling and sat out of their pre-trial hearing Tuesday as the judge granted them broad latitude regarding what they can wear when they do choose to appear in court. On the second of what is expected to be a five-day hearing at Naval Air Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, the judge, Army Col. James Pohl, also took up what is considered a main issue: how to proceed with the trial without compromising classified information. Fort Stewart holds 9/11 observance at Main Post Chapel
Fort Stewart held a 9/11 remembrance ceremony Tuesday at the Main Post Chapel. The anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks was observed with prayer, song and a message from the Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield installation chaplain. Tuesday is the 11-year anniversary of the terrorist attacks that brought down the World Trade Center in New York City and damaged the Pentagon. Ceremonies are scheduled nationally and locally to remember the day, honor the victims and celebrate the actions of Americans in the aftermath of the attacks. But now that it's more than 10 years since the attacks, there is a quieter approach to the anniversary. Those in public safety, however, will never forget. Saturday morning, firefighters participated in the Dunwoody Manhattan Memorial Climb at The Manhattan Condominiums. State Rep. Pakistani national has been held at Guantanamo Bay since 2006
A Pakistani national held at Guantanamo Bay now faces numerous charges connected with his alleged financial support of al Qaeda and an alleged assasssination attempt, according to a Department of Defense press release. Majid Shoukat Khan, who has been interned at Guantanamo Bay since 2006, according to a Government Security News report, has been charged with conspiracy, murder and attempted murder in violation of the law of war, providing material support to terrorism, and espionage. The 10th anniversary of the war in Afghanistan passed quietly for troops on the ground there. "I think that to us (the 9/11 anniversary) was a far more significant date than 10 years of fighting in Afghanistan," Marine Maj. Gen. John Toolan Jr. told CNN.
