A Fort Stewart soldier and two soldiers from Fort Bliss, Texas, were killed by an improvised explosive device.
A Fort Stewart soldier was killed in Afghanistan May 14, along with two soldiers from Fort Bliss, Texas, according to the Department of Defense. Sgt. 1st Class Jeffrey C. Baker, 29, of Hesperia, Calif., was assigned to 766th Ordnance Company, 63rd Ordnance Battalion, 52nd Ordnance Group, Fort Stewart. Also killed were Spc. Mitchell K. Daehling, 24, of Dalton, Mass., and Spc. William J. Gilbert, 24, of Hacienda Heights, Calif. Both assigned to 3rd Battalion, 41st Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, Fort Bliss. The soldiers died from wounds suffered in an enemy attack using an improvised explosive device, according to the Defense Department. Jorge Roman with 24th Ordnance Company, 87th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 3rd Sustainment Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, has spent his life being a good example to his loved ones and his community. He’s been a soldier for about 16 years, served several tours in Iraq and even served as a civilian police officer during a break in service. He takes care of his soldiers, his wife, and their three daughters, Issabelle, age 9, Alisa, age 8, and baby Christina, whom they welcomed into the world May 4. Hood, who was born in Montclair, N.J., moved to Orlando, Fla., when he was 15 years old. After completing high school, he then attended the University of Central Florida, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in humanities. A Savannah detective says Hunter Army Airfield soldier Emmanuel Perez, accused of killing a man last month, was 'surprisingly calm' when he turned himself in.
A Hunter Army Airfield soldier will face a grand jury indictment in connection with the murder of a Savannah business owner last month, according to the Savannah Morning News. During a Thursday hearing, Chatham County Judge Harris Odell Jr. found probable cause to send a murder charge against Sgt. Emmanuel Perez to the grand jury, the Morning News reported. Perez has been charged with murder in connection with the April 23 death of Savannah buiness owner Armondo Montes. Montes was shot several times in front of his business, Brothers Tire Repair. He was found dead at the scene. Police say that within minutes of the shooting, Perez turned himself in to military police at Hunter Army Airfield. He was then handed over to Savannah-Chatham law …

Dana Cook, provided a "wellness workshop" for deployed soldiers at Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan, May 3. The workshop offered soldiers and leaders with Task Force Provider skills on how to remain resilient while in a stressful environment. The class included advice on how to stay positive, set goals and control emotions, to name a few. Qualified mechanics, who graduated from the H8 Wheeled Vehicle Recovery Course, trained and operated the MRV in day and night conditions.
