The Midway branch of the Heritage Bank was robbed Friday afternoon, according to a Coastal Courier report. According to the report, police have not yet released a description of the robber or robbers or a description of a getaway vehicle. The Liberty County Sheriff's Office is investigating, and the FBI has been notified. This is the fifth time since 2002 that the branch has been robbed, according to the Coastal Courier. A pedestrian was killed Saturday while trying to cross Elma G. Miles Parkway.
A Hinesville man was killed Saturday when he was struck by a car while attempting to cross the street, according to a Coastal Courier report. Johnny Riles, 59, of Hinesville, was crossing Elma G. Miles Parkway at 10 p.m. Saturday when he was struck by a 2009 Jeep Patriot. The impact threw Riles about 20 feet, according to the Coastal Courier. Emergency medical personnel transported Riles to Liberty Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Jeep, 37-year-old Stephanie Belue of Ludowici, had been returning home to Long County when the accident occurred, the Coastal Courier reported. Savannah police say the man fired shots at another person after an argument in a parking lot.
A Savannah man was arrested Sunday in connection with a road-rage incident in which shots were fired at a 62-year-old man, according to the Savannah Morning News. Jamaal Bryant, 31, was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, according to the Morning News. Police say that the victim was leaving a store Sunday morning when Bryant sped into the parking lot in a white Toyota. According to police, the victim yelled at Bryant and an argument ensued. The victim finally got into his car to leave, when the Toyota turned around in front of his car and shots were fired at him, the Morning News reports. Come out to Central Avenue in downtown Hinesville this weekend to check out Safe Kids Day, a free event sponsored by the Hinesville Police Department. The event, originally scheduled for May 4, was rescheduled for this Saturday. Children can get fingerprinted for Ident-A-Kits and adults can learn how to properly install infant car seats. Authorities say the car crashed into a stand of trees after speeding away from a police officer.
Two people were killed Sunday when their car crashed into trees and caught fire, according to a Savannah Morning News report. The crash occurred after the two fled from a police officer, according to the report. According to the Morning News, a police officer noticed a tan Oldsmobile parked on a boat ramp on Islands Expressway Sunday Morning. The officer approached the car on foot to see if everything was all right, and the vehicle took off. However, police did not pursue it since there was no indication of illegal activity. According to the Morning News, the speeding car nearly hit a patrol car on Goebel Avenue and then crashed into several trees at Foster Street and caught fire.
