We've featured Hinesville's Bassano's Italian Eatery before on Fork and Cork, but a lot's changed since then. They've expanded their menu and added tons of daily specials. Bassano's features great Italian food, a relaxed, low-key atmosphere and great service. It's locally owned, too -- a real plus in these days of by-the-numbers franchises. It's a great place for a date or a get-together with friends. Highly recommended. Here are some of the specials Bassano's is featuring: Monday: Military appreciation (5-9 p.m.) -- Whole ticket receives 10 percent off. Tuesday: Pizza and pasta buffet only $…
This week's featured restaurant is Papa Murphy's, home of the "take-and-bake" pizza. While the concept is a bit, well, different, the pizza speaks for itself. If you haven't been to the Papa Murphy's locations in Hinesville or Richmond Hill, here's how it works: You walk up to the counter and tell them what kind of pizza you want, and they put it together right in front of you. Perhaps because their customers are watching the pizza while it's under construction, Papa Murphy's doesn't skimp on the toppings. When I went, I ordered a pretty standard sausage-and-pepperoni pizza, and by god they …
Once again, it's time for Fork and Cork, our look at the best of local dining. This week's featured restaurant is Gata's Sports Bar & Grille in Hinesville. Gata's, formerly Buffalo's Cafe, is a casual restaurant offering a large selection of Southwestern cuisine, including wings, ribs, burgers, chicken tenders and even peanut butter and jelly for the kids. Gata's has a casual atmoshpere, and looks quite a bit like a family-friendly version of the old pool hall where you whiled away your misspent youth -- lots of wood, dimmish lighting. The food is reasonably priced, and the service is prompt …
Welcome to Fork and Cork, a Fort Stewart Patch column devoted to dining out! In the past, Fork and Cork has focused on staff-written restaurant reviews, and while you'll still see those occasionally, we're looking for community feedback as well. And of course, we also want to get the word out about the great dining options around town! So each week, we'll be spotlighting a different restaurant in the Hinesville-Fort Stewart area. This week, we're shining a light on Rosenhof German Restaurant, located off Midway Street in downtown Hinesville. This restaurant serves delectable German cuisine …
My first impression from That's Italian Restaurant, 364 Memorial Drive, Hinesville, was how extensive the menu is. Moderately priced, they offer a variety of specialty salads, not your run-of-the-mill appetizers, pasta dishes, calzones, stromboli, and pizza. It really makes it hard to choose what to order.  We decided on the NY Margherita pizza. Since we had heard great things about the stromboli, we also ordered one these, with cheese and chopped steak. It was fairly busy on a Friday night, and we chose to sit outside while we waited. There is a small area inside to eat, and a couple of …
Rodeo Mexican Restaurant is that rarest of creatures -- a sit-down restaurant with good food, good service and great prices. One out of three is common, even two out of three isn't that rare -- but three for three? Tough to find. I tried Rodeo for lunch. I was seated immediately, and a server was right there with a basket of warm tortilla chips and a bowl of salsa. These are complimentary, as is common in many Mexican restaurants, and they'll fill up that basket with fresh chips as many times as you like. The menu is quite extensive, and if you like Mexican food, you'll find something to like…
My husband and I wanted to go out for Valentine's Day. We realized that every restaurant in Hinesville was probably packed, but we decided to take our chances. I had been to Sushi House, 229 W General Screven Way in Hinesville, once about a year ago. I remembered the yummy sushi and friendly service. I also remembered that we had been the only couple in the restaurant, so we assumed it was a hidden gem. Well, we were wrong. When we arrived at Sushi House in the Hinesville Shopping Center, there was a 30-minute wait. I was surprised by the crowd, but we decided to stick it out. After a long …
Taking your sweetie out for Valentine's Day? Patch wants your picks for the best restaurant for a romantic evening, so we're conducting an admittedly unscientific poll. You can browse our directory to find great places to eat like Juan's Mexicali, Bassano's Italian Eatery, Buffalo's Cafe or Rosenhof German Restaurant -- or tell us about your favorite out-of-the-way bistro. Vote in our poll, or tell us your favorite place to eat in the comments, and we'll interview the winners and find out what makes their restaurant special! We'll accept votes through Monday!
If you're looking for a fast lunch that doesn't feature an entree starting with the letters, "Mc," you could do a lot worse than giving Juan's Mexicali a try. While the restaurant doesn't feature table service -- you stand in line to order and they make your meal in front of you a la Subway -- the food is great, the service is fast and the portions are satisfying. Juan's prices are also reasonable, making it a perfect place to grab a bite during your lunch hour. The food is much more satisfying than a typical fast-food burger, and the entrees are large enough that you might have leftovers to …
It's true, I've already reviewed Bassano's Italian Eatery. Their lunch buffet got high marks, as did their fantastic service. But when the folks at Bassano's told me I needed to experience their dinner menu, it seemed only fair to write up a review of that as well. Just to prove I don't beat around the bush, I'll sum up my review of Bassano's dinner service right up front, and in one word: Stellar. These folks know how to do Italian right. Not just the food, but the ambiance. Bassano's dining room, with its rich earth tones, tasteful decor and soft music, is the perfect place to enjoy a …
Bassano's Italian Eatery opened late last year in Hinesville's old Western Sizzlin' location. The new restaurant serves traditional Italian fair at reasonable prices -- along with some old American standbys. I stopped in yesterday for the lunch buffet. For about nine bucks, I was treated to all the food I could eat. I concentrated on the pizza, but the buffet also featured chicken, beef, rolls, desserts -- even mashed potatoes and gravy. The food was good, and there was a lot of it. The staff was very friendly -- and attentive without being overbearing; my soda glass was never empty, but I …
