New Details in Prisoner Hospital Escape

Hinesville police recaptured a prisoner Tuesday night after he broke from custody and hid in Liberty Regional Medical Center.

A prisoner who escaped police custody Tuesday at Liberty Regional Medical Center and was later recaptured has been identified.

According to WSAV, the prisoner, Travis Cooler, was arrested Monday for drug possession. He was transported to the hospital Tuesday for drug detoxification.

Cooler escaped through a bathroom ceiling at about 7:30 p.m., leading Hinesville police to conduct a wing-by-wing search of the hospital. The hospital continued to operate during the search, although police did restrict public access. According to WSAV, local detectives and Liberty County fire crews were called in to aid the search.

Cooler was found about an hour and a half later, hiding in the ceiling near the emergency room, not far from where he'd made his escape. He was transported back to Liberty County Jail, according to WSAV.
