Mega Pawn Expanding
Hinesville's biggest pawn and collectible shop is adding 1,600 square feet.
Hinesville's largest pawn and collectible shop is expanding. Mega Pawn, 1008 W Oglethorpe Hwy, Hinesville, is adding 1,600 square feet of floorspace to its showroom, already the largest in Hinesville.
Manager Donnie Morrison said the additional floorspace will allow the store to display its merchandise more effectively -- and expand its selection. For instance, he said, firearms customers will be able to pick from new and preowned weapons.
"We're going to be selling new guns now," Morrison said. "We'll have a complete gun center and display area and a complete line of gunsmithing work."
Chris Chauvenne, Mega Pawn's firearms expert, said the selection won't just be limited to the showroom.
"We'll take any special orders," Chauvenne said. "If they make it, I can get it."
The store already has a little of everything on offer, Morrison said.
"We pretty much take just about anything of value," he said. "We take appliances -- stoves, refrigerators, that kind of stuff. We take sports memorabilia that's been authenticated. ... Most pawnshops take your basic, run-of-the-mill stuff, but we take everything."
The shop also has a large selection of tools, furniture, electronics, musical instruments, new and used jewelry, antiques and even military gear. Indeed, half the fun of visiting the shop is wondering around and seeing what out-of-the-way treasures you can discover.
And the shop does loans on more than just items you can carry in, according to employee Dara Rolph.
"We do car title loans on any year vehicle -- motorcycles, ATVs, jetskis, trailers," Rolph said.
Morrison said that if you can't find what you're looking for -- or need advice on what you do find -- he has a staff of experts to help.
"Chris (Chauvenne) is an expert on weapons," Morrison said. "Alex Stowbridge has been a car installer for 30-plus years. He's an expert on car equipment."
Morrison summed up the business model of Mega Pawn succinctly: "We're not like your average pawn shop," he said.
Mega Pawn is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Saturday. Follow the business on Facebook or Twitter.
