Apple's Chief Executive Tim Cook apologized last week for user frustration with its new mapping software and magnanimously explained how people could still access Google Maps from the iPhone and iPad.

Apple says it's already working to fix problems including incorrect location identifiers and puzzling satellite pictures. But the chaos has left room for other services, like Google, to make inroads.
